Orthopedic surgery in the ambulatory outpatient setting requires an anesthesia team with experience managing complex musculoskeletal cases, a strong command of regional anesthesia techniques, and the ability to support efficient, high-volume case days. Our physician anesthesiologists lead every orthopedic anesthesia plan, working closely with surgeons and surgery center staff to ensure each patient receives safe, individualized care from preoperative assessment through recovery.

Regional anesthesia plays an increasingly important role in outpatient orthopedic surgery. Peripheral nerve blocks, when appropriately selected, can reduce the need for general anesthesia, provide excellent intraoperative and postoperative pain control, support faster recovery room discharge, and improve overall patient experience.

Our physician anesthesiologists are trained in a range of peripheral nerve block techniques relevant to orthopedic surgery, including interscalene, supraclavicular, femoral, adductor canal, popliteal sciatic, and ankle blocks, among others. We work with each surgical team to determine the most appropriate anesthetic approach for each patient and procedure.

The Anesthesia Care Team Model

All orthopedic anesthesia services at Capitol Anesthesiology are delivered under the Anesthesia Care Team model. Our board-certified physician anesthesiologists either personally administer anesthesia or medically direct CRNAs and CAAs on each case. This model ensures physician accountability and oversight throughout every procedure.
